Alidu Iddrisu Jama Wins 2024 Ahafo Ano South West District Best Farmer Award

Alidu Iddrisu Jama, a 52-year-old farmer at Nkyensidanho in the Ahafo Ano South West District has been named the Best Farmer for the 40th edition of the Farmers' Day celebration held at Hwibaa.

The event, traditionally held on the first Friday of December was moved to November 8th because of the December 7th general elections. It was on the theme "Building Climate Resilient-Agriculture for Sustainable Food Security".

As part of his prize, he received a tricycle sponsored by the Member of Parliament and some other farm equipment.

The District Chief Executive, Hon Joseph Frimpong Bonsu, in his speech, extended his appreciation to farmers for their hard work and sacrifices to ensure the sustenance of the nation.

He said the government flagship program that was rolled out in 2017 was to deliver targets solutions to the problems within the agriculture sector. He emphasized that the broad objective of the planting for food and jobs was to boost productivity. According to him, evaluation has proven that farmers had a lot of yields out of the program.

He noted that the Ahafo Ano South West District Assembly supported farmers with 25,000 coconut seedlings and 12,800 palm seedlings in 2024.

Also, the Assembly, in collaboration with the International Water Management Institute, embarked on an exercise to reclaim lands that have been degraded as a result of illegal mining activities in the District. He said the exercise would see to the planting of palm seedlings on a 22-acre land at Kunsu.

The best farmer, in his speech, asked the government to make soft loans available for farmers. Eighteen (18) other farmers received various categories of awards.

In attendance were the Traditional Authorities, Political Parties, Farmers, Heads of Department, Assembly Staff and the general public.
