TREE FOR LIFE REFORESTATION INITIATIVE KICK START

.The "Tree for Life" Reforestation Initiative launched by President John Dramani Mahama on March 21, 2025, aims to plant trees to restore degraded lands and combat climate change.

This initiative is a national effort involving various government agencies, the private sector, and the general public. It seeks to raise awareness about the importance of trees, particularly in restoring lands damaged by illegal mining (galamsey) and promoting sustainable forest management.

The initiative, which started today, is ongoing, with a specific planting period between June 5th and 30th, 2025, according to the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources.

The Ahafo Ano South West District Forestry Commission, together with the Ahafo Ano South West District Assembly, on Thursday, June 5, 2025, at Mankranso, planted trees like Cassia, Gmelina, Cashew, Mahogany and Kokodua to kick start the "Tree for Life" Initiative.

The District Manager for the Forestry Commission, Ishmael Boakye Agyemang, in his address stated that the planting for life initiative, which aims at planting 30 million trees across the 16 Regions of Ghana, will continue to the end of September 2025. He urged all Ghanaians to plant and own trees to see to their growth.

The representative for the District Chief Executive and the District Coordinating Engineer Alexander Kello noted that, the District Assembly will see to the sustainability of the trees planted to promote sustainable forest management. He urged the general public to visit the office of the District Forestry Commission for some of the seedlings and plant them in their various localities.

In attendance were the District Forestry Manager, Ishmael Boakye Agyemang, Deputy District Forestry Manager, Annane Frimpong, District Finance Officer, Nana Kweku Duah, District Works Engineer, Engineer Alexander Kello, Development planning convener, Hon Paul Amegbo, Heads of Department of the District Assembly, some staff of the District Assembly, staff of the District Forestry Commission and the media.
