In pursuant to the directive of President John Dramani Mahama to have a modest Independence Day Celebration, the Ahafo Ano South West District Assembly had a modest celebration of Ghana's 68th Independence Day Anniversary with five schools participating with the guard of honour done by Mankranso Senior High School cadet corps.
This year's celebration was limited to a few schools to reduce costs as part of the reset agenda by the government.
Also in attendance were the Sankofa cultural troupe from Mankranso, R/C Basic School cultural group from Kunsu and ST Peter's R/C Primary and JHS cultural groups.
There was no march past. Rather, cultural performances and poetry recitals took center stage in the celebration.
Mr. Paul Atsu Agbezudor, the District Coordinating Director in his keynote address entreated the gathering to reflect on the sacrifices of the heroes and visionaries who fought tirelessly for Ghana's independence and sacrificed to lay the foundation for the Ghana we all want.
According to him, the theme "Reflect, Review and Reset" is reminding Ghanaians to commit themselves to values that would make Ghana work again
He encouraged the youth to avail themselves and participate in the Techs kills initiative of the government when it is enrolled.
Hon. Elvis Osei Mensah Dapaah, Member of Parliament for Ahafo Ano South West Constituency, urged all students to take their studies seriously. He later promised to present a car on July 30, 2025 to the overall best candidate of the West African Senior High School Certificate Examination.
Mr. Justin Kwasi Gbotor, District Director of Education emphasized the significance of honoring the country's leaders for their sacrifices to attain independence for Ghana. He urged all to get involved in the Nation Building agenda.
The 2024 best WASSCE candidates, Robert Mensah of Mankranso Senior High School and Bukari Rauf of Wioso ALMA Mater Senior High School were awarded cash prizes by the District Assembly. Also, three Junior High Schools namely Domeabra D/A JHS, Mankranso Methodist D/A JHS and Mankranso D/A JHS "B" were awarded for their outstanding performances in the Basic Education Certificate Examination in the 2021, 2022 and 2023 respectively.
Also in attendance were Nana Safreadu Amankwatia Sampene I, Chief of Mankranso who also doubles as Otumfo Bremponghene, District Commanders of the various security agencies, Assembly Members, Heads of Department, Headteachers and teachers, political party representatives, staff of the District Assembly and staff of the District Directorate of Education.
