The District Chief Executive (DCE) for the Ahafo Ano South West District Assembly, Hon. Abubakar Sedik, together with the NDC Constituency Chairman for Ahafo Ano South West, Koo Broni, has cut sod for the construction of a weighing centre and the completion of nurses’ quarters at Kunsu Dotiem.
The initiative forms part of efforts by the two leaders to provide basic amenities and improve access to essential services in communities across the District.
Speaking at the ceremony, Hon. Abubakar Sedik explained that the decision to construct the weighing centre was necessitated by the poor condition of the existing facility where nurses currently weigh children.
He noted that the current environment was not suitable for routine weighing and other child welfare services.
According to him, the development was a demonstration of his commitment, together with the NDC Constituency Chairman, to complement government’s efforts by addressing some of the immediate needs of communities within the constituency.
Hon. Sedik said he and Koo Broni had agreed to support communities with basic amenities where necessary, stressing that development should not always depend entirely on central government.
He further stated that the provision of such facilities would contribute to improving healthcare delivery and the general well-being of residents.
The DCE and the Constituency Chairman also inspected ongoing reshaping works on the Kunsu Camp–Kunsu Dotiem road, which is expected to improve accessibility and movement.
Koo Broni, for his part, said the NDC in the constituency would not sit back and wait on government for everything before contributing to the development of the area.
He explained that although government has a major responsibility for development, local leaders and stakeholders could also initiate projects that directly respond to the needs of their communities.
“We will not wait for government every day before we do something for our people,” he said, emphasising the need for collective responsibility in driving development.Koo Broni disclosed that the construction of the weighing centre and completion of the nurses’ quarters are expected to be completed within three months. He expressed the hope that the facilities, when completed, would provide a more conducive environment for nurses to work and improve healthcare services for residents of Kunsu Dotiem and surrounding communities.
The leaders reiterated their commitment to working together to identify and address pressing developmental challenges in communities within the Ahafo Ano South West Constituency.
