The District Chief Executive for Ahafo Ano South West, Hon. Abubakar Sedik has taken a significant step toward expanding tertiary health education within the District, following a successful engagement with stakeholders to establish a new Nursing Training College.
\r\nThe initiative began when the DCE paid a courtesy call on the authorities of Tepa Nursing and Midwifery Training College, during which the school disclosed its desire to introduce a degree programme. Seeing an opportunity to support this vision, Hon. Sedik assured them that the District would be ready to provide land for the construction of the new faculty.
\r\nTo advance the process, the DCE engaged CCOD, a development-oriented NGO based in Sunyani and headed by Dr Gabriel Banaku, which expressed readiness to partner with the District on the infrastructural aspects of the project. The proposal received full acceptance, bringing the discussions to a practical stage.
\r\nAs part of the next phase, the DCE, together with CCOD CEO Dr Banaku and officials from the District Assembly, visited the palace of Kunsuhene, Nana Dr Agyemang Badu Duah, to request land for the project. In line with his commitment to development and education, Kunsuhene generously allocated several acres of land situated directly opposite the Agenda 111 hospital for the establishment of the new Nursing Training College in Kunsu.
\r\nDuring the engagement, the DCE expressed gratitude to the Kunsuhene for the swift support and emphasised the impact the project would have on health training, job creation, and local development. He noted that the District remains committed to creating opportunities that will uplift the youth and improve healthcare delivery.
\r\nKunsuhene, Nana Dr Agyemang Badu Duah, commended Hon Abubakar Sedik and CCOD for prioritising development in the area. He stated that education remains a powerful tool for community progress and pledged his continuous support throughout the project’s implementation.
\r\nCEO of CCOD, Dr Gabriel Banaku, also delivered remarks, highlighting his organisation’s readiness to invest in infrastructure that enhances social welfare. He described the project as a transformational step that will strengthen nursing education and promote quality healthcare for generations in the District.
\r\nFollowing the speeches, the delegation proceeded to inspect the designated site, marking a significant milestone in the journey toward establishing the new institution.
\r\n\r\nThe upcoming Nursing Training College is expected to become a major tertiary educational institution in the District, complementing ongoing government efforts under the Agenda 111 facility nearby.
