The Government of Ghana has taken responsibility for the funeral expenses of six individuals who lost their lives in a tragic fire outbreak at Atwima Manhyia in the Atwima Nwabiagya South District of the Ashanti Region.

The unfortunate incident occurred when a residential building caught fire, leading to the death of all six occupants. The deceased were laid to rest on Thursday, January 8, 2026, at Mpasaso No.2 in the Ahafo Ano South West District.

The funeral ceremony was attended by key government officials, traditional leaders and security representatives, demonstrating the government\'s solidarity with the bereaved family during this difficult period.

Among those present were ASP Prosper Adjei, 2IC at the Mankranso Police Command, Nana Antwi Ebenezer, Chairman of the NDC Council of Elders in Mankranso, Hon. Abubakar Sedik, District Chief Executive (DCE) for Ahafo Ano South West District and Hon. Wisdom Osei Boamah, DCE for Atwima Nwabiagya South District.

Also in attendance were Superintendent Andrews Okonenje, District Police Commander and Alhaji I. M. Nasir, Ashanti Regional Director of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO).

As part of government support to the bereaved family, Hon. Abubakar Sedik and Hon. Wisdom Osei Boamah jointly presented an amount of Ten Thousand Ghana Cedis (GH¢10,000.00) to assist the family in coping with the loss.

Addressing the gathering, the two District Chief Executives expressed deep condolences to the family and urged residents to take fire safety seriously, especially in residential areas. They reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting victims of disasters and called on relevant institutions to intensify public education on fire prevention.

Officials from NADMO and the Police Service also used the occasion to caution the public against unsafe electrical connections and poor fire safety practices, which remain major causes of domestic fire outbreaks.

The tragic incident has thrown the Atwima Manhyia community and Mpasaso Nô2 community into mourning, with residents calling for increased fire safety education and improved emergency response systems to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
