A NEW ERA BEGINS AS 40 NEW ASSEMBLY MEMBERS WERE SWORN IN.

The newly elected members and government appointees of the Ahafo Ano South West District Assembly (AASWDA) have been inaugurated for a four-year tenure to advance local development and governance.

The 40 Assembly members which consist of 29 elected and 11 government appointees, were sworn into office on Monday February 12, 2024.

Her ladyship Emmanuella Sarah Asmah, the District Magistrate administered the oath of secrecy and allegiance to the newly elected members of the Assembly.

On behalf of the President of the Republic, H.E Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo, the minster for Transport, Hon Kwaku Ofori Asiamah (MP) read the inaugural speech and congratulated all the elected Assembly Members on their success at the recent ended polls late December 2023.

The Hon Minister urged members of the Assembly to support the government in delivering its programmes and projects to the benefit of the people and adopt Open Government Partnership to enhance local governance and improve participation. The District Chief Executive Hon Joseph Frimpong Bonsu also congratulated the Assembly members for their election and appointment into the Assembly, charging them to work voluntarily devoid of party affiliation.

Hon. Prince Oppong, Assembly member for Wioso was elected as the Presiding member after two rounds of elections. He secured 28 votes in the run-off with his contender Hon. Paul Lloyd Kwasi Amegboe Assembly member for Betoom electoral area pulling 13 votes.

Hon. Prince Oppong in his acceptance speech thanked all the Assembly members for the confidence reposed in him and promised to work hard to ensure that all the developmental needs of the various electoral areas are addressed.

Present at the august house were the traditional authorities, the clergy, opinion leaders, political party executives, heads of department of the Assembly, the media, and the public.
